Three Pillars. One Purpose.
Everything we do at BEA flows through three interconnected pillars: Awareness, Support, and Community.
Breaking Stigma Through Awareness
Epilepsy is one of the most stigmatized conditions in Africa. Misconceptions, fear, and misinformation cause as much harm as the condition itself. BEA is changing that.
Through school programs, community workshops, social media campaigns, and public events like our annual Purple Run, we are bringing epilepsy into the open - so people can understand it, not fear it.
- Annual Purple Run (5km awareness race)
- School education programs
- Healthcare provider sensitization
- Social media awareness campaigns
- Purple Ribbon advocacy initiatives
Support for the Whole Person
Epilepsy affects more than just the brain. It touches mental health, nutrition, relationships, spiritual life, and identity. We believe support must reach every part of a person's life.
Our support programs offer counseling, nutritional guidance, caregiver support, and spiritual care - meeting people where they are and walking with them toward flourishing.
- Mental health counseling and support groups
- Nutritional assessment and guidance
- Caregiver training and relief
- Spiritual care partnerships
- Crisis intervention and referrals
Building Community for Epilepsy Warriors
Isolation is one of the greatest challenges for people with epilepsy in Africa. Community changes that. When people connect, share, and support each other, something powerful happens.
BEA builds networks of epilepsy warriors and allies - through events, online groups, peer mentoring, and advocacy training - so no one has to face this journey alone.
- Epilepsy warrior peer groups
- Family and caregiver networks
- Online community platforms
- Advocacy training and leadership
- Youth with epilepsy programs
